BERLIN (AP) — Alassane Plea scored for Borussia Moenchengladbach to consolidate third place in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win at local rival Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
The France striker struck with the visitors’ first shot on goal in the 37th minute, ruining Peter Bosz’s debut as Leverkusen coach, despite the home side’s pressure for what would have been a well-deserved equalizer.
Gladbach moved five points clear of fourth-placed Leipzig, which hosts league leader Borussia Dortmund later Saturday.
Bosz, who formerly coached Dortmund, was appointed Leverkusen coach as a replacement for Heiko Herrlich, who was fired on Dec. 23 despite four wins from five games across all competitions due to what the club called a “stagnation” in development.
